From the Inn front entrance or car park, cross Warrington Road and turn left (1) and walk 300 metres to Fowley Common Lane where you turn right (2).

Walk 250 metres along the lane and take the spur on the left (3) and immediate right (4) into the track in front of Hebden Avenue. After 150 metres, cross the stile on the right hand side and go over the wooden footbridge over a hollow in the corner of the field. Follow the footpath to Warrington Road where you turn right (5).

Walk along the pavement for 250 metres and in front of the mini roundabout, take the track on the

right (6).

After 300 metres, the path joins a road where you turn right (7). Towards the end of this road, just before Culcheth Hall Farm Barns, take the footpath to the right (A) and follow the path for 0.7 kilometres, where you turn right alongside a large chestnut tree, following the public footpath signs.

(8) Walk alongside the wood, with

Culcheth High School visible to your right (B). Pass a metal gate (C) and continue into

the open field (9). Cross the field diagonally, aiming for the red and white post opposite. Turn right in front of a rickety stile and metal gate (10).

Walk a short distance and enter the corner of a wood and veer right. Take care along this narrow winding woodland path as there are a many tree roots and it may be also be muddy and slippery at times. Cross over 3 wooden bridges. (D)

As you emerge from the wood, cross the low stile (11) and carefully step over the fallen tree branch. Walk around the edge of the field. Do not take the first stile and footbridge but continue round the field veering to the right.

Carry on until you reach the metal kissing gate. Go through the gate and turn right.

Continue until you meet Fowley Common Lane, where you turn left (12).

Continue to Warrington Road.

14. Cross the road and turn left. Walk along the footpath returning to the Raven Inn.

NB. - the footpath between Fowley Common Lane and Warrington Road on the early part of the route may be overgrown with nettles and brier and the bridge over the low ground may be flooded and impassable during wet periods. An alternative under these conditions, is to set off from the Raven and carry on along Warrington Road past Fowley Common Lane, to the track in front of the mini roundabout where you pick up the walk at point 5.

The Raven Inn is set in beautiful countryside and to enhance its enjoyment, a number of circular walking routes ranging from 4.5km (2.8 miles)

to 7 km (4.5 miles) have been produced, starting and finishing at the Raven Inn. They largely follow country lanes and public rights of way, where the ground in parts can be uneven, and at times muddy, so stout footwear or walking boots are advised.

The Countryside Code should be observed at all times and dogs should be kept under strict control.

Walkers follow the routes at their own risk and the Raven Inn does not accept any responsibility for personal injury.
