A ride down to Runcorn via the ship canal and Trans Pennine Trail, over the old Jubilee bridge (good photo spot), around Spike Island and a coffee stop (pronounced 'beer') at the Ferry Tavern (they have local pies too). Carrying along the Sankey trail and up behind B&Q to Winnick then the usual road through Croft and Culcheth and finally back to the Raven. There are a few short climbs but nothing like the last one, it's mostly flat along the Ship Canal and TPT and same again on the Sankey trail. Overall, it's around 32 miles but mostly flat, bumpy but flat.
This is mainly MTB, Gravel or Hybrid. Skinny tyres not recommended for this one as there is a quite a bit off road and some of it could be very bumpy.
As usual, this will suit riders of all levels and the same rule applies, out as a group, stay as group, this isn't the Tour De France so it'll be at a relaxed pace, no PR's or KoH/QoH record breaking. So, whoever is at the front, just have a look behind occasionally and check everyone is still there 😀
There are a few bridges to cross (in Sankey Valley park) that will need the bikes pushing up the steps.
This ride will suit all levels of fitness, it's not a race. Younger riders with road awareness welcome, we do hit a few roads that will, potentially, be busy (mainly around Winnick).
We carry a few spares and tools on every ride with spare inner tubes but these are mainly for standard wheel sizes. 27.5, 29, 700c and 650b along with puncture kits and pumps. If you have an odd wheel size it is advisable to bring along a spare tube or 2.
The ride is open to anyone who fancies a trek out, gravel/MTB/Hybrid/e-bikes, just turn up before the set off time.
The ride should take around 3-3.5 hours with the coffee (beer) stop and a final beer (coffee) stop back at the Raven.
